The Philosophy
Woodlike Ocean's philosophy is to create feminine swimwear with a perfect fit and a sporty twist. Crafted in the highest quality for a long love affair with the ocean.
Our lines are inspired by a woman who embraces a healthy lifestyle, cares about the environment, and is confident and comfortable in all aspects of her being. A modern woman who loves the water, fashion, and Mother Nature.
The result: swimwear made from recycled materials, including Italian fabric containing 78% ECONYL® regenerated nylon and 22% Xtra Life Lycra®, sourced from reclaimed fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring, and industrial plastic waste, in excellent and long-lasting quality. Last but not least, it looks absolutely beautiful!
Our Approach
Quality is the foundation of everything we do, and we continuously work on improving our processes from design to manufacturing, sales, and distribution.
As 1% For The Planet members, we donate at least 1% of our net sales to the Healthy Seas organization, which collects the ghost fishing nets used to produce ECONYL® regenerated nylon.
About 640,000 tons of fishing gear end up in our oceans every year.* Fishing lines are one of the most deadly contributors to marine life damage. Every year they are responsible for trapping and killing millions of marine animals, causing further damage by entangling live coral, smothering reefs, and introducing parasites and other invasive species into reef environments. It takes centuries for fishing lines to become fully biodegradable. The microplastics released in the process will be perceived as food by fish and eventually end up in the human food chain.
For part of our collection, our Italian fabric is made with 78% ECONYL® regenerated nylon composed of ghost fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring, and industrial plastic waste. Each Woodlike bikini made with this fabric uses approximately 180-200 g of this recycled material.

Fabric
We use a range of recycled fabrics across our collection.
One of the fabrics we use is premium Italian fabric made from 78% ECONYL® regenerated nylon yarn and 22% Xtra Life Lycra®. The ECONYL® regeneration system recovers waste such as reclaimed fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring, and industrial plastic.
This waste is sorted and cleaned to recover the nylon and create premium-grade ECONYL® regenerated nylon fabric. The Philosophy Our Approach Fabric This fabric has UPF 50+ UV protection, is resistant to chlorine, and has higher shape retention than conventional swimwear fabric, based on manufacturer testing data.
Donation
Our commitment goes beyond the use of regenerated ECONYL® yarn: Woodlike Ocean is a partner member of the 1% For The Planet® organization. For every piece purchased, we donate 1% to the Healthy Seas initiative.
One of their main activities is organizing voluntary divers who recover ghost fishing nets, used together with other nylon waste, to produce ECONYL® yarn.
Packaging
We look at every packaging decision individually and are continuously looking for ways to reduce material and waste. Let us know if you have a better solution; we are always open to improvement!
We try to keep packaging as minimal as possible. In this spirit, we developed a reusable, 100% recyclable clutch made from Tyvek®, which can be used as a waterproof pouch for your bikini or as a fashion accessory, instead of being thrown away. For our online orders, we use a mix of packaging solutions, including our home-compostable mailing bag called the "Dirtbag," which biodegrades within 3-6 months in a home compost setup,* as well as cardboard boxes made from recycled materials. Depending on order size and product, we fold our swimwear directly into the Dirtbag without additional plastic wrapping, so it works as both a mailbag and a protective sleeve during shipping.
All other packaging, printed forms, stickers, and hang tags are made from recycled materials and carry [name of specific certification, e.g. FSC® or Blue Angel] certification. *Biodegradation time based on home composting conditions; actual results may vary depending on compost setup and environmental conditions.
Production / Fair Trade
Not only how, but by whom our swimwear is made matters just as much to us.
Our swimwear is produced by a small, family-run business in Turkey. Personal contact with our producers is important to us, which is why we visit their facility in person for every collection.
We work directly with our production partner to minimize negative impacts associated with manufacturing, and we maintain long-term, personal relationships with the people who make our swimwear. Every piece is handmade.
Why recycling?
For our swimwear line, we chose recycled fabric over new (virgin) materials wherever possible. We believe that turning waste into new products is one meaningful way to reduce plastic pollution. Recycling alone won't solve the problem of waste, but it reduces the need for new raw materials and helps conserve natural resources. Producing recycled plastic requires significantly less energy than producing virgin plastic.* It also helps keep plastic out of landfills and oceans, where it would otherwise break down and release pollutants into soil and water. This is how we turn waste into something new.
