Hi, we are Sonja & Mauricio, the founders of Woodlike.

 

 Woodlike was born in late summer 2016 out of a desire for change.

The ocean and our planet is something we deeply love and respect. After traveling the world for a long time and seeing the huge impact plastic has on our environment, it inspired us to design swimwear that is not only good for us but also for our environment.

We strive to minimize our impact on the environment and create swimwear that helps clean our ocean and planet instead of polluting it to protect what we love most: Our oceans.

Sonja was born in Hamburg, Germany. She learned at an early age the tailor and pattern maker profession, creating high fashion collections for a renown German textile group. After a while, she took the road less traveled and spent half of her life commuting between Oahu’s North Shore, Bali and Australia. The water became her second home and she soon realized she couldn’t find a modern bikini piece that would fit with her athletic needs. She explored new fits and began hand sewing bikinis for her own personal use. Soon after people asked where they could get those pieces - an idea was born. Sonja now brings her creative vision, meticulous technical eye and love for the ocean in the Woodlike product and brand.

Mauricio was born and raised in San Jose, Costa Rica. Spent a lot of my life at the beach searching for that romantic endless summer ideal. Passionate about fashion design, aesthetics, and creativity since an early age. Mauricio met Sonja on the North Shore and we have been inseparable since then. Self-taught web developer and designer working for a leading agency with an extensive portfolio of renown companies. Now he helps craft and guide the Woodlike Ocean brand vision.
